Teresa Pargeter is a recipient of the Outstanding Service Award for Teaching. A longtime instructor of UC Davis International Programs, she has more than 30 years of experience teaching a wide range of ages and language abilities.

25 Indonesian Students from IISMA Arrive at UC Davis

UC Davis welcomed 25 students from 19 universities across Indonesia to participate in the Global Study Program as part of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program. The students represent a range of majors and will be taking UC Davis classes this summer and fall.

UC Davis International Offers Summer Programs in Shanghai

Student Spotlight: Ryotaro Okada

In 2019, Ryotaro Okada came to UC Davis with a dream. An ESL student from Ritsumeikan University in Japan, he dreamed of becoming a theme park designer in the United States. He applied to the Global Study Program, to bolster his English-language skills and gain the foundation he needed to study in the U.S.

Indonesian Scholarship Students Excel in UC Davis Global Study Program

Fall 2021 marks a momentous quarter for 17 students attending the Global Study Program at UC Davis. These students are part of the inaugural Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards program, launched and funded by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. This competitive and prestigious award provides well-qualified students from universities across Indonesia the opportunity to study abroad.

Meet Stephanie Palmer, Your UC Davis Immigration Advisor

As the immigration advisor for International Programs at UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education, Stephanie Palmer provides immigration and visa support to both F-1 and J-1 visa holders and their partner institutions. She can help answer both pre-arrival and post-arrival questions, offers advice on F-1 and J-1 visa procedures and helps students maintain their immigration status throughout their time at UC Davis.

The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art opened its doors on November 23, 2016. The museum is the culmination of UC Davis’ efforts to promote creative and innovative thinking in the community. Learning English in a Green Building

Efforts to develop a sustainable community have granted UC Davis position #3 in the world ranking for campus sustainability. In April 2017, the International Center made its debut as a LEED Certified Gold building. But, what does LEED Certified Gold mean? The United States Environmental Protection Agency created the LEED rating system (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) to promote the constructions of buildings –from residential to commercial– that positively impact the well-being of people and the planet.

Shizuoka Salesio High School comes to UC Davis International English Programs

Traditionally Intensive English Programs (IEP) are for adult learners to advance and accelerate their career through participation in a rigorous English language curriculum. High school students can participate in a similar course of study through “English youth programs.” These programs often balance instruction with other social and cultural components to create a more age-related experience.

English Language Student visits emblematic U.S. ballparks

Baseball holds a meaningful place in American culture, and for International English Program student Sou Koguma, a true American experience meant that he would visit the country’s most emblematic baseball stadiums. Sou has walked through the historic entrance of Chicago’s Wrigley Field and cheered alongside New York’s Yankees fans at Yankee Stadium. Sou’s interest in baseball and ambition took him places he had always dreamed of seeing.

Bike Safety Tips

Being nicknamed “Bike Capital USA” means that Davis is filled with thousands of new students and bicycles every year. Unfortunately, that also makes it a target for bicycle theft. Hundreds of bicycles are stolen around campus and the city of Davis and it is important to take precautions in order to avoid these incidents. A few key tips to decrease your chances of having your bicycle stolen are listed below:

On Friday, the UC Davis/ISA Tokyo Center classroom passed out the last certificates of the academic year and wished the students well on the next steps of their academic journeys. 

UC Davis’ Custom Youth Programs Offer Chinese Students a Taste of College Life

Youth from two of the top six schools in China’s largest metropolis, Guangzhou, recently visited UC Davis to study and experience university life in the United States.  As part of the Custom Youth Programs at UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education - international, middle and high school students participate in a variety of academically rigorous research, college preparation and English language programs on the UC Davis campus.

Visiting International Students Participate in East Asian Studies Research Seminar

This spring, Chinese, South Korean, Japanese, and Hong Kong students from UC Davis’ Global Study Program have joined UC Davis undergraduate students in an East Asian Studies Research Seminar. The first offering of its kind, this course is a collaboration between International programs at UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education and the East Asian Studies Department.

Using Art as Expression with English Language Learners

Walking through halls of the International Center, you can’t miss the beautiful collection of photographs, sketches and needlework that appear on the 2nd Floor. If you look closely, names and locations are listed on each piece. This collection is the result of ESL Instructor Elizabeth Morrison’s efforts to brighten the hallways in a way that engages and recognizes her students.
