Celebrating Partnerships Old and New

One of the benefits of working in international education is the opportunity to connect and work with partners from around the world. At UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education International Programs, we value both our long-term relationships and the forging of new relationships that allow us to collaborate with respected international partners on new projects and share the resources and expertise of UC Davis.

In March, we welcomed two delegations from Shandong Province in China and look forward to working on these upcoming ventures together.

Shandong Agriculture University

A partner since 2018, Shandong Agriculture University in China sent a delegation led by Dr. Changjian Leng, president of the university, to UC Davis in recognition of our continued collaboration. The delegation met with UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May and renowned scholar Ermias Kebreab, associate dean for Global Engagement in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis.

The ceremonial visit endorsed the continued partnership between UC Davis and Shandong Agriculture University in student mobility and faculty research collaborations. The delegation also had strategic meetings with members of UC Davis International Programs, including Director of Access Programs Jake Hosier, Director of New Academic Initiatives Nari Fujita, and Associate Director of International Partnerships and Development Xin Chen.

The visit concluded with the successful securement of funding for Shandong Agriculture University students to study at UC Davis for a three-month credit-bearing program and four-week general experiential learning program. The Chinese university is also looking forward to bringing their faculty to UC Davis International Programs to prepare them for future teaching and research collaborations with UC Davis.

The delegation was particularly impressed by the critical role International Programs plays in supporting the university’s mission by leveraging the talents of faculty and by our strong ties and networks with the Davis community, the state of California and overseas to provide services to the local community and beyond.

The principal from Kyoto Otani High School, a long-time partner of UC Davis International Programs, also joined the discussion to share their success with our highly customized high school collaboration model that focuses on curriculum integration with global competency training. Following the visit, the Shandong Department of Education delegation shared their excitement in collaborating with UC Davis International Programs and is excited to bring life-changing experiences to the youth in Shandong Province.
