UC Davis Selected to Welcome Indonesian Students as a Part of Inaugural Awards Program
Updated June 8, 2023: The University of California, Davis, has been selected for a third time as a host university for the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards program. UC Davis remains the only University of California school—and the only West Coast institution—in the program.

UC Davis will welcome a new cohort of 25 students for fall 2023.
Updated May 18, 2022: The University of California, Davis, has once again been selected as a host university in the Indonesian Student Mobility Awards program. UC Davis remains the only West Coast institution and the only University of California school in the program. A new cohort of 25 students will participate in the 2022 program this fall.
The University of California, Davis, has been selected to participate in the inaugural Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards program (IISMA), beginning in fall 2021. UC Davis is one of four universities in the United States, and the only west coast institution, to take part in the scholarship program.
Launched and funded by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, the program provides well-qualified Indonesian undergraduates the opportunity to enroll as visiting students at UC Davis, gaining knowledge and skills, exchanging ideas and culture, and building new relationships as part of the Davis community.
Selected students from across Indonesia will spend fall quarter 2021 on campus, integrated with the UC Davis student body while enrolled in up to four UC Davis classes through the UC Davis Global Study Program within Continuing and Professional Education (CPE). The Global Study Program will also provide tailored cultural and professional learning opportunities to supplement the students’ experience.
Starting in 2022, the Indonesian government intends to expand the program and send as many as 10,000 visiting students per year to leading global universities.
“UC Davis is well-positioned and eager to welcome Indonesian students as part of the mobility awards program,” explains Jacob Hosier, director of access programs for CPE. “We will be able to fully integrate these visiting students into campus academic life while also giving them the cultural and logistical support needed to make the most of their stay in Davis.”
The new program will build upon UC Davis’ already strong ties to Indonesia. UC Davis currently has over 100 undergraduate students from Indonesia, many of whom are active in Permias, the Indonesian student association. UC Davis researchers collaborate with Indonesian colleagues in fields ranging from agriculture and marine science to molecular genetics, music, and nutrition. UC Davis also maintains formal agreements of cooperation with three Indonesian universities and is developing new connections on an ongoing basis.
“UC Davis has a strong tradition of cooperating with Indonesian institutions and welcoming students from Indonesia,” says Nathan Camp, programs and partnerships manager in UC Davis Global Affairs. “Our participation will help as we continue to build strong individual and institutional relationships with our colleagues in Indonesia,” he added. “We are honored to be part of the inaugural year of the awards program and hope we can welcome additional Indonesian students into our community for years to come.”
