Meet Katrina Koenig, Assistant Director of Academic Prep and Pathway Programs
Katrina Koenig has worked in education in an international setting her entire professional life. As a lifelong learner, she also has a broad educational background with undergraduate degrees in English and Spanish, a master’s in applied ethics and several certificates, including in service learning, positive leadership and TESOL.
Whether at work or at home, Katrina values connecting with those around her. “I try to be present in every aspect of my life,” she says. “At work this is reflected in the way I connect with the people around me to focus on the work we are doing together. In my personal life, being mindful allows me to nurture relationships.”
As the assistant director of Academic Preparation and Pathway Programs for International and Access Programs at UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education, Katrina helps ensure that programs are implemented with the highest quality for students and partners.
Tell us about your international experience.
My first experience was right out of high school with an international education and community service organization called Up with People. During college I studied abroad in Mexico for one and a half years and later did my master’s in Belgium. I have traveled to Canada, Sweden, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Japan and China. Wherever I go, I try to spend enough time there to connect with the culture and people as much as possible.
What are you most excited about in this role?
I love working in a culturally diverse environment with people who are passionate about what they do—students, partners and colleagues alike.
How will your work support our international students and partners?
My job is to make sure our international students and partners have a stellar experience here at UC Davis. All my effort will be put into making that a reality for them.
What do you value most about working in international education?
What I value most is the opportunity to learn from others. I believe the only way we can find peace in this world is through education and understanding among cultures and countries. I hope to contribute to that through this role.
