Communication and Culture - 4 weeks

The Communication and Culture Program (CCP) is a comprehensive four-week program with four hours of instruction each day. It is ideal for participants of all English levels who want an intensive learning experience within a short time frame. This program is offered in both winter and summer and focuses on American culture and conversational fluency. The core classes are Intercultural Research Project, U.S. Society and Culture, Listening and Pronunciation, and Everyday Expressions and Idioms.

Participants must have a high-school diploma or be at least 18 years old to enroll in this program.

The Program

  • Offered twice each summer and winter
  • Highly-qualified and experienced teachers
  • Open to students of all English-speaking levels
  • Small class size (14-18) for high interaction among instructors and students
  • Optional trips to Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, Napa Valley and Los Angeles
  • UC Davis students as conversation partners both in- and out-of-class
  • Daily recreational, cultural and social activities with UC Davis student leaders

Academic and Business Electives

Advanced students may choose one elective from the following:

  • Academic Preparation Skills
  • Business Communication Skills
  • Everyday Expressions and Idioms
  • Critical Thinking

Placement by English Language Ability

Students are placed according to their written and oral evaluation upon arrival at UC Davis. This program is open to students of all skill levels.

Field Trips

During this program, optional trips are planned to scenic, cultural and historic places like San Francisco, Sacramento, Yosemite, the Napa Valley wine region and Los Angeles. The field trips (which vary each quarter) offer a unique opportunity to see California and experience American culture with fellow students and Recreational Program Leaders.
