On January 29, 2025, Global Study Program students and staff celebrated the Year of the Snake at the UC Davis International Center. They listened to a playlist of music selected by GSP students and enjoyed a Chinese dinner together. Students also had fun learning calligraphy, as they taught each other how to paint the Chinese character for "good fortune" to keep as a souvenir. Professor Dawn Cheng from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering also joined the festivities and spoke with students about engineering, lab research and graduate school in the U.S.
"The Lunar New Year celebration was such an incredible experience!" said Shuyi Li, a Chinese GSP student from the University of Tokyo. "From practicing calligraphy to sharing festive foods, every activity brought people together in the spirit of the holiday. It was the perfect blend of cultural immersion and pure fun. Feeling grateful to be part of such a warm and welcoming community at UC Davis, I can’t wait to make even more memories like these!"
