University of California, Davis, Directed Group Study: Research Preparation, Methodology and Practice

This online course is a custom program designed to introduce undergraduate students to the culture of science in academia and connect them with leaders in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Students will engage with UC Davis professors who are leaders in the field and receive expert advice on being a successful researcher. Students will also gain critical thinking and communication skills to help prepare them for international graduate schools and careers in science. Course topics and assignments, such as writing and revising abstracts, preparing for conference presentations, communicating about their research, and networking with faculty and other professionals in their field, are designed to help students develop confidence as a research scientist and scholar. In addition, students will participate in virtual site visits to UC Davis labs and facilities. To help ensure that students receive the best learning outcome possible, the course focus, length and delivery time can all be customized to meet our partner’s needs. Previous customizations have included a 10-week engineering seminar and a 10-week chemistry seminar. Download an example of a course syllabus for more information.
