University of California, Davis, Directed Group Study: Research Methodology & Graduate Preparation in STEM

Led by biomedical engineering Professor Tingrui Pan, this online course focuses on introducing students to the culture of science in academia and connecting them with leaders in the field. Engage with UC Davis professors in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Learn about their research projects and receive expert advice on being a successful researcher and graduate school candidate. The course will also foster the development of technical, communication and critical thinking skills; all of which are important attributes that employers and graduate schools seek when evaluating new college graduates. Topics and assignments are designed to help students develop confidence as a research scientist and scholar, write and revise abstracts, prepare for conference presentations, communicate their research, and network with faculty and other professionals in their field. In addition, site visits to UC Davis labs and facilities will be part of the educational program. Download a draft syllabus for more information.
