The Pre-Graduate Program (PGP) provides international students with solid preparation for applying to graduate programs in the United States, as well as for success in their graduate studies. This program offers a positive and enriching intercultural experience that builds students’ knowledge, confidence, awareness, critical thinking and presentation skills—all essential skills for future global leaders.
- Program offered every year from September to June
- Nearly 600 hours of classroom instruction (20 hours per week)
- Individualized attention and small classes (approximately 12-18 students)
- Advising in linguistic proficiency, university studies and intercultural communication
- Test preparation
- Orientation to U.S. campus life and services
- Visits to U.S. graduate schools to meet admissions staff
- Highly qualified and experienced instructors
- Access to the International Learning Center (ILC)
- Paper-based TOEFL test at the end of each quarter (included in tuition)
- Frequent recreational and social activities
- Optional weekend trips (at student’s expense), including Yosemite National Park, Napa Valley, San Francisco and Los Angeles
- Volunteer work in the Davis community
- Possibility to audit certain undergraduate classes alongside UC Davis students
PGP coursework focuses initially on the English language skills needed to read and write at the graduate level and to communicate effectively with potential graduate program administrators, professors and students. Participants will increase their chances of being accepted at major graduate schools in the United States and elsewhere by:
- Strengthening their English communication skills with the goal of achieving TOEFL and GRE/GMAT scores necessary for graduate program admission
- Covering graduate level topics and fine tuning their English proficiency
- Receiving intensive support with the U.S. graduate school application process
- Acquiring the academic skills necessary for graduate school success
