This elective is only for 500-level students. You can only sign up for one elective. This course focuses on academic listening, including lectures and other longer informational texts such as news videos and short documentaries. Students will engage in speaking activities each day to work on academic vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and everyday language, especially for giving organized talks. There will be several presentations assigned throughout the quarter, ranging from 4-8 minutes in length. These talks might involve presenting ideas/data from light research (surveys, listening tasks, professional/academic experience, etc.). This course will help prepare students for the listening and speaking portion of the TOEFL and IELTS exams.
