U.S. College Study Skills

Learn essential skills to succeed in the U.S. undergraduate environment. This two-week course is intended for international high school students (grades 10-12) interested in pursuing an undergraduate education in the United States. The course is designed to provide tools and strategies needed to focus, think critically and become an independent lifelong learner to achieve greater success in college and beyond. Students will also have the unique opportunity to experience campus life at a world-class, tier 1 research university known for its rigorous academics and safe college-town atmosphere. Upon completion of the course, students will earn two units of UC Davis academic credit, gain a newfound confidence in their academic performance and have a better understanding of the U.S. college admissions process—particularly the UC Davis admissions process.

Program Details

The program consists of 22 instruction hours, various social and cultural activities, tours around the UC Davis campus and field trips to other college campuses. View a sample schedule. Students will be required to take an English Placement Test to determine eligibility. A minimum English level of 400 or IBT 43 is required. This is a commuter program. Students must coordinate their own housing.

For higher-level English language high school students interested in a more intensive overview of the U.S. college application process, we also offer our three-week, residential College Preparation Summer Academy.

Our in-person U.S. College Study Skills will take place on the UC Davis main campus from July 8 – July 19, 2024.

Class start:  Monday, July 8

Closing/Certificate ceremony: Friday, July 19

Application Fee: $100

Application fees are nonrefundable.

Tuition Fee: $1,995

This does not include fees for housing accommodations.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive an approval notification.

Final payments are due by 5:00 pm (PST) July 1, 2024.

Technical Requirements

Students are asked to bring their own laptops to the program to use in daily classes.
