Here are some frequently asked questions related to A Taste of Davis.

  • What is A Taste of Davis?
  • A Taste of Davis offers students and professional staff the opportunity to take one or two classes at UC Davis from their home countries.

    Please note that students participating in A Taste of Davis will also be expected to:
    - take any placement exams required
    - receive approval for enrollment in campus classes
    - be prepared to select alternate courses in the event that enrollment is not approved
  • Am I eligible to apply?
  • A Taste of Davis is offered to university and high school students at foreign institutions, U.S. high school students in their senior year, and professional staff at our partner institutions.

    The admission requirements for A Taste of Davis are the following:
    - 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale) (B average)
    - 550 PBT/80 IBT TOEFL or IELTS 7 (CET4/CET6 accepted)

    Certain specially-designed courses may have different English requirements. If you are interested in one of these courses, please contact the A Taste of Davis staff.

    If you were already admitted to the Global Study Program, then you are automatically eligible for A Taste of Davis. Please contact the Global Study Program advisors to let them know that you want to participate in A Taste of Davis.
  • How do I apply and when is the deadline?
  • Interested students should apply through the online application for A Taste of Davis. The application deadlines for each term have been listed below.

    Fall Quarter 2020: August 31
    Winter Quarter 2021: December 1
    Spring Quarter 2021: To be determined
  • What are the costs of participating?
  • We are offering a special discount of $730 per quarter for participating students. This discount has already been included in the total costs listed below.
    3 units: $1,500
    4 units: $2,085
    6 units: $3,255
    8 units: $4,425
  • When do classes begin?
  • UC Davis uses the quarter system, which has 10 weeks of classes followed by 1 week of final exams. The course dates for each quarter are listed below.

    Fall Quarter 2020: September 30 – December 11
    Veterans Day (No Class): November 11
    Thanksgiving (No Class): November 26 – November 27
    Final Exams: December 14 – December 18

    Winter Quarter 2021: January 4 – March 12
    Martin Luther King, Jr Day (No Class): January 18

    Spring Quarter 2021: March 29 – June 3

  • What classes can I take? How can I search for them?
  • After admission to the program, we will provide you with resources to help you find and select courses. You may also look through the UC Davis Course Catalog for a full listing of courses. Please keep in mind that not every class is offered every term, so make sure to check whether the course will be available.
  • How do I register for classes?
  • Course registration occurs after classes have begun, although you are expected to attend all classes and complete all coursework from the first day.

    You may be approved to enroll in certain courses before the beginning of the quarter. These courses have been specially designed with A Taste of Davis students in mind. If you are interested in learning more, please contact the A Taste of Davis staff.
  • Will I receive transfer university credit?
  • A Taste of Davis courses carry the Extension XD credit designation, which means they have been approved by the Academic Senate and are equivalent to courses taught at UC Davis. Students have transferred XD credits successfully to colleges and universities across the United States. At the end of your program, you will receive a transcript that lists the courses that you’ve completed.

    You will need to meet with your program advisor at your home university to verify whether these credits can contribute towards your degree program there. Your home university determines how transfer credits are processed, and they can help you with those questions.
  • If I withdraw from the program and drop my classes, will I receive a refund?
  • Refunds for course withdrawals will be granted, minus a $30 processing fee for each course, if the request to withdraw with a refund is received in writing (by mail, email or in person) by the deadline to drop date.

  • No visa is required to participate! A Taste of Davis is entirely online, which means that you can take the classes from your own country.
